American Bulldog

The strong and courageous companion from the USA

The American Bulldog is a powerful, brave and devoted dog breed. Known for their strength and courage, this dog breed is at home on farms and in family homes all over the world.

Origin

The American Bulldog is descended from the old English bulldogs that were used for bullfighting in the 17th century. When bullfighting was banned in England, these dogs began to be used more as farm dogs. Those brought to America by immigrants evolved into what we know today as the American Bulldog.

Size

American Bulldogs are a large dog breed. Males usually measure between 50 to 70 cm at the withers and weigh between 32 to 54 kg. Bitches are slightly smaller and usually weigh between 27 to 41 kg.

Appearance and coat

American Bulldogs have a muscular and powerful build, with a large head and strong jaws. They have short, dense coats that come in a variety of colors and patterns, including white, fawn, brindle, and combinations thereof.

Acquiring an American Bulldog

Before you get an American Bulldog, you should be aware that these dogs need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. They have a lot of energy and are best when they have something to do, be it playing, working or exercising.

American Bulldogs are also known for their devotion to their owners and can be very protective. Therefore, it is important that they are properly socialized and trained from a young age. They get along well with children and other pets if properly introduced.

The coat is short and requires minimal grooming, but these dogs are known to shed quite a lot, so regular brushing may be necessary.

Owning an American Bulldog can be a very rewarding experience, but it is important to be prepared for the demands that this energetic and strong dog breed can have. With the right training, care and love, an American Bulldog can become a loyal, loving and reliable part of the family.
